Dr. Marilyn L. Minus was a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering from 2010, serving as its Chair from 2020-2024 prior to accepting a position of Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Hexcel Corporation. She passed away on August 6, 2024, due to cancer. Dr. Minus was a generational talent, establishing herself not only as a world-renowned expert in carbon fibers, polymer composites and next-generation material processing, but also as an outstanding educator, mentor and leader in science, engineering and academia. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Minus’ exceptional combination of integrity, courage, compassion, curiosity, gratitude, generosity, and strength inspired and empowered all who interacted with her. The intent of this scholarship is to select students who exhibit some of these characteristics, and in recognizing their value, to honor the memory of an individual who was beloved and respected by so many and taken from us far too soon, and to continue her mission of making the world a better place.

- Undergraduate applicants may be first-time or continuing students in the CUNY SLU BA in Labor Studies
